Hello there! It’s been a while, I know. A lot of things happened last year, which, TBH, put my writing work on the back burner for a while. However, I’m now back to working on my new book, a YA Supernatural Thriller, and reviewing books – which I love to do!
Today’s review is The MAD Scientist Society by David Wade. This is the second book of David’s that I have read. I enjoyed his previous book, The Adventures of Timmy, Molly and Jack, so much that I was keen to read and review his latest work.
Being a huge fan of children’s fiction, it’s always a joy to find new and exciting authors and titles. After reading the book blurb, I was hooked, and so, following a brief author bio and book blurb, here is my full and honest review of David Wade’s The MAD Scientist Society.

BOOK BLURB
When Arthur’s father dies under mysterious circumstances, his world is shattered. But nothing could prepare him for the truth: his father—and every ancestor before him—was part of a sinister organisation known as The MAD Scientist Society.
Exiled to St. Beatrice, a prestigious boarding school with a dark secret, Arthur discovers it’s no ordinary institution. St. Beatrice is a training ground for the world’s future evil masterminds, dedicated to carrying out MAD’s nefarious plans. Worse still, Arthur is expected to step into his father’s shoes as a member of MAD’s elite council, masterminding schemes of global chaos and destruction.
There’s just one tiny problem: Arthur isn’t evil.
Trapped in a web of deception, Arthur must hide his true nature to survive. But when he uncovers MAD’s latest plot—a plan to enslave humanity using artificially intelligent robots—he knows he can’t stand idly by. With time running out and danger lurking in every shadow, Arthur embarks on a high-stakes mission to uncover the truth behind his father’s death and bring down MAD from within.
Packed with thrilling twists, ingenious plots, and betrayals from some of the most wicked minds ever created, this action-packed adventure will keep you on the edge of your seat. Will Arthur save the world… or lose everything trying?

MY REVIEW
David Wade has a fantastic imagination. The MAD Scientist Society follows Arthur Archer, his best friend, Jeb – the gentle giant, and an unexpected associate, Penelope Jones, on an adventure, trying to find answers to his father’s death while also trying to save the world. There’s a mysterious man with a robotic arm, a sinister organisation called the MAD Scientist Society, run by a council comprising of an eclectic group such as the glamourous Rosalind Suarez, slimy Fredric Ferdinand the Third – rumoured to have killed his father to gain a seat on the council, and the devious, frightening and intimidating Head of the Council (and also headmistress of St Beatrice’s Academy), Lavinia Smith. Arthur, Jeb and Penelope face so many challenges and scrapes that the reader is left wondering how they will ever find the answer to the big mystery. Who killed Alex’s father? This book is full of action and adventure and grips the reader from the get-go.
Thank you, David Wade, for inviting me to review The MAD Scientist Society. It was a joy to read, and I look forward to reading more!

MY NEXT REVIEW
My next review, Selena Flowers and the Phantom Tides by Ella English, will be coming soon. This book was released on 25th February 2025, so still very new on the bookshelves. I’ve read and blurb and love the cover, so I’m looking forward to reading and posting my review here on my blog. However, I haven’t read the first in the series yet, so we’ll see whether this is a good standalone or whether it’s best to read the first book beforehand.
“Something strange is going down in the sleepy seaside village of Madderly Bay. Best friends Selena and Chloe are stuck in the most boring summer ever—until food starts coming to life and running wild in the streets.
But that’s just the beginning. Earthquakes start shaking the village, and creepy claw marks show up, hinting at something dark stirring beneath the waves. Only Selena and Chloe know the real story about the zombie mermaids they faced before—and now they’re worried the threat they thought was gone might be back.
As the tremors get worse and the water turns a scary green, the girls have to figure out what’s awakening in the depths before it’s too late. With their friend Zelda and her magical squid, Glowella, by their side, they’ll risk everything to save both the human and magical worlds from a danger that could destroy them all.
In this thrilling adventure, Selena and her friends have to face their fears and dig up some serious secrets between the human and magical worlds. With their village and the ocean in danger, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Can they figure out what’s messing with the sea before it’s too late? Or will they realise that saving their town—and both worlds—might be way harder than they thought?”
Join me next time for my review of the second in The Merblood Saga, Selena Flowers and the Phantom Tides.
Until then,
Happy Reading!
