Woman reading a book to her dogs

Today’s review is the latest in Alice Chambers’ Bob the Bear series, entitled More Fun with Bob the Bear. This is the fourth in the series and the third book of Alice’s which I’ve read. Each one has been a fun-filled joy to read. Her Bob the Bear series is perfect for little ones to listen to and engage with. Alice’s stories are focused on Bob the Bear, who is an adorable character based on a teddy bear she knitted for her grandchildren to play with. Her books feature a selection of photographs with Bob the Bear getting into all sorts of adventures.

AUTHOR BIO

Alice Chambers has always loved little ones and went to Teacher’s Training college, after which she ran a kindergarten and taught six-year-olds in West London. Alice started writing children’s stories over 43 years ago, including a book called Scratch McPatch and Sniff McWhiff.

This story is dedicated to Alice’s husband Bob who loved wearing his waistcoats and glasses. Now Alice is a Nonna and loves being with her grandchildren Elliot and Zara. Bob the Bear was created after Alice knitted a large bear with a waistcoat and glasses for the children to play with. Bob the Bear tries to hide in Alice’s garden but is always discovered and seems to love climbing more than hiding.

MY REVIEW

More Fun with Bob the Bear takes the reader on a fun day out where Bob meets even more new friends. This time, he meets chickens, a beautiful white pony, sheep and two beautiful, friendly dogs. As with the rest of Alice’s Bob the Bear series, the story is told through a conversation between the reader and Bob. Throughout the story, there are questions and observations made which will engage all little ones with the story. Afterwards, Alice provides a recap on the day’s adventures. This includes a gallery of all the photographs within the book, followed by a question-and-answer section with questions such as, “Can you remember who Bob the Bear visited?” This is a wonderful way of getting children interested and interacting with the story.

More Fun with Bob the Bear is a fun-filled story which will engage everyone. Bob is a lovely character, and I look forward to seeing what other adventures he has. Maybe a trip to the zoo, or a hot air balloon ride?

Thank you so much, Alice, for inviting me to review your latest book. It’s always a joy reading Bob’s adventures.

A new murder mystery paperback book

WHAT’S NEXT …

From children’s fiction to crime. - Variety is the spice of life!

J M Simpson is one of my favourite crime writers. I’ve read her fantastic Castleby series, and I highly recommend it to all lovers of murder, mystery and suspense. The Ophelia Murders is the first in her Whistlers Peak series.

Here’s the book blurb:

In a mountain resort in the Scottish Highlands, the body of a young woman is found in a loch, carefully arranged. The murder is vaguely reminiscent of a famous painting.
Detective Sergeant Scott Hansen is called in to investigate. Shortly after his arrival, another body is found, but the evidence at the scene is confusing. Is it a murder or a suicide? Are the murders linked? There are too many coincidences, too few suspects and no leads.
After a couple go missing in bad weather, a woman is found dead at the bottom of Devils Ridge. Mountain rescuer Jack Mackay and his daughter, Bonnie, find the dead woman’s husband, miles away on Whistlers Peak Mountain, close to death and incoherent.
No one knows what happened, how he got there, or how his wife died.
But someone saw something.
With deaths stacking up, Scott is led a dance of lies and misdirection until he finally discovers the shocking truth that some secrets are worth killing for.
Murder, suspense, drama and mystery in the first of the Whistlers Peak series.

Sounds good doesn’t it!!

Until next time,

Happy reading!
