We're honoured and proud to be a part of this year's Children In Read 2021!
Children in Read is the world's largest author and illustrator auction. There are so many brilliant writers and artists involved including the greats, Neil Gaiman, Chris Riddell and J. K. Rowling.
Books and artwork are up for auction to the highest bidder and will be personally signed by the author or illustrator themselves. What's even better is that all the money raised will go to the wonderful Children In Need appeal.
This is Children In Read's 7th year. Bids will close on November 19th and already there has been a staggering £15,000 raised!
In memory of Children In Need's Advocate Lucinda Riley.
This year, Children In Read pays tribute to the brilliant author Lucinda Riley who sadly passed away in June 2021. Lucinda was a huge advocate for Children In Read. Her contribution to the world of literary fiction is legendary. To name but a few of her books, there are: The Severn Sisters series, The Angel Tree, The Butterfly Room and her latest, which I have yet to read, is the children's Christmas story, Grace and the Christmas Angel. This latest book has recently been published and was a collaboration with her son, Harry Whittaker and is beautifully illustrated by Jane Ray. If you haven't read any of her books, then I recommend buying a copy. Believe me, you will be lost within the magic she weaves throughout the pages of her books.
The history of Children In Need.
When I had the opportunity to participate in Children In Read, I leapt at the chance. Knowing that the money raised by this auction goes to Children In Need is all I needed to know. Children In Need has been running for over 50 years. Its first-ever radio appeal dates back to 1927 and in 1985 we saw the arrival of the now-famous cuddly mascot, Pudsey the bear.
