AUTHOR BIO. (taken from Susan Brandt’s website: https://susanbrandt.co.uk)

Susan Brandt is an emerging artist with no formal training in art, although her father, Rolf Brandt, was an artist and teacher. Inspired by a box of Perspex that belonged to her father, she is influenced by Ben Nicholson, Fernand Léger, and Naum Gabo, as well as the Bauhaus and Picasso works she used to see at the Chateau Grimaldi in Antibes; Hans Arp, Victor Vasarely, and Paul Klee have also had a major impact.

Susan also recently published her Young Teen novel, "Kim's Promise." Although "Kim's Promise" is a novel for readers aged eleven and up, it is mildly influenced by fairy tales and the wonderful Eastern stories of Idries Shah, which Susan used to read to her children.

Susan has also written plays and screenplays, as well as a 1992 travel memoir.

Susan lives in London and has a daughter and a son. Previously, she spent years working as the head of a Dyslexic Unit at a Sixth Form College and later running her own private

practice.

Book Review by Gillian Young

MY REVIEW.

Kim’s Promise is a wonderful story of adventure. The reader follows Prince Kim on a quest to discover the truth behind an old family curse, following a promise to his dying mother.

We see Kim embark on a mission full of danger, intrigue, deceit, and mystery, which takes him through the dangerous, bandit-infested mountains to new towns, lavish palaces, and even jail. The pieces of the story come together seamlessly in this engaging story.

WORK IN PROGRESS

Some of you may know that I'm currently working on a book that is completely different from my previous children's dog fiction. As much as I love writing about Poppy, the crazy cream retriever, I realise it is time for a change.

I'm excited about how the book is developing - seemingly all by itself! Sounds crazy, I know. But as I work through this spine-tingling supernatural thriller, new concepts unfold before my very eyes. Ideas I had not originally thought of naturally take shape. I can't give too much away, but I will say this:

"A family cursed through generations. A lie that deceived the nation. An ancient unstoppable Evil. The Hierarchy of Angels. These are the ingredients of Gillian Young's next book, out next year - so watch this space!

Until next time,

Gill x
